• Involves electronic communication to ensure implementation and may involve an occasional conference call (if this is the mode of communication they wish to use) and a meeting at Congress of approximately two hours. Additional work will be based upon commitment of committee members to various assignments.

• Involves meeting once a year with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and work with staff to ensure implementation. Additional work will be based upon commitment of members to various assignments.

• Involves meeting with FHWA representatives at the Transportation Technical Committee meetings and work with staff to ensure implementation. Additional work will be based upon commitment of committee members to various assignments.

• Involves electronic communication to ensure implementation and a meeting at Congress of approximately two hours. Additional work will be based upon commitment of committee members to various assignments.

• Involves possibly one meeting a year and work with staff and ITE members to ensure implementation. Time commitment will be based upon the issues under study.

• Involves communication and attendance at each other’s principal meetings annually to create and administer a joint work plan based on educational activities..

• Involves electronic communication to ensure implementation and a meeting at Congress of approximately two hours. Additional work will be based upon commitment of committee members to various assignments.

• Involves three to four 2-day meetings a year in Washington, D.C. Additional review of documents occurs outside the meetings.

Each appointed member and alternate serves on a special committee of NCUTCD. No expenses are covered by APWA.

For decades, the APWA Florida Chapter has administered scholarships that have helped hundreds of students to achieve their dream of a college education. Through the vision and diligence of past Executive Committees, and the dedicated effort of our current Executive Committee, the Florida Chapter has slowly grown an endowment to guarantee our ability to continue this highly successful program. Each year, during the Annual Meeting and Trade Show, the Florida Chapter hosts the Awards and Scholarship Luncheon where multiple scholarships are awarded to individuals that are gaining knowledge through high education.

The Florida Chapter seeks to recognize outstanding individuals who are pursuing civil engineering degrees, public administration degrees, or to employees of public works agencies continuing their college education. The scholarships are designed to alleviate the financial burdens associated with higher education, permitting the winners to devote more time both to pursuing their academic goals and advancing their leadership initiatives.

Application and current official transcript should be mailed to the Scholarship Chairman, Russell Ketchem, no later than Friday, March 12th by 3:30 PM EST. Scholarship awards will be provided to students currently enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate Programs. A current official transcript from an accredited college or university must be included in order to be eligible for consideration. Awards for these scholarships are determined by the Scholarship Committee, which is why it is important that the application completed in its entirety. Incomplete applications, or those not received by the submittal deadline, will not be considered for award.

The Southeast Road Safety Audit (RSA) Forum and Road Safety Audits for Local Governments Workshop are Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) - sponsored events, and will be held in conjunction with Florida's quarterly Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) Coalition Meeting, which is supported by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Southeast Road Safety Audit Forum September 21-22, 2009: 

The SE RSA Forum will focus on common emphasis areas among the states including current progress, RSA success stories from around the country, and ways to advance implementation of RSAs in the southeast region. This Forum will also serve as a peer exchange among the participating states to facilitate discussion and highlight successful RSA programs and policies. A small registration fee of $75 will cover materials, breaks and breakfast.

On behalf of the Corporate & Community Training Institute (CCTI) at Indian River State College (IRSC) and the American Public Works Association Florida Chapter we wish to congratulate the first graduating class of the Florida Chapter Public Works Institute who graduated April 9, 2009!

Seventeen professionals completed 90 hours of the requisite 3 training modules to earn their graduation honors and recognition from the American Public Works Association (APWA). As an added bonus, graduates also received Continuing Education credits and were eligible to receive 6 Indian River State College credits!

The APWA Florida Chapter has partnered with Indian River State College to provide leadership, managerial and operational training for aspiring public works employees who are looking to enhance their skills and advance their careers through a comprehensive program that covers everything from solid waste management to media relations!
