Public Works Director - City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The City of Fort Lauderdale is situated on the southeast coast of Florida, in the east-central portion of Broward County, approximately 28 miles north of Miami and 42 miles south of Palm Beach The City shares boundaries with nine other municipalities, as well as unincorporated areas of the County. Fort Lauderdale encompasses approximately 36 square miles with an estimated population of 182,827, Fort Lauderdale is the largest of Broward County’s 31 municipalities and one of the ten largest cities in Florida. 

The City of Fort Lauderdale operates under a commission-manager form of government, with a City Commission comprised of the Mayor and four Commissioners. The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks a forward-thinking, innovative Public Works Director to provide sound leadership for one of the organization’s largest departments. 

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in a related field and have nine (9) or more years of progressively responsible professional and managerial level experience in facilitating a public works department within a municipality. Previous supervisory experience is required. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education. An engineering degree is desired but not required. Residency is preferred but not required.
