Illustrative Duties (the following are highlights; a detailed job description is available in Human Resources)

• Operates a single piece solid waste equipment on a defined route, including but not limited to residential side loader, commercial roll off, commercial front load, residential and commercial rear load, and clamshell loading sanitation trucks. Also operates forklifts, pick-up trucks, pressure washers, gas powered equipment, chain saws, tree trimmers, shovels, and rakes.
• Operates solid waste equipment to collect commercial or residential refuse, recycling, yard trash and bulk waste on designated routes in the designated route sequence.

Sanitation Equipment Operator I - Commercial Collection

• Performs daily routine preventive maintenance checks of assigned equipment and safety inspections in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements before operation and completes pre- and post-trip inspection reports. Complete all pre and post trip inspection reports daily for review and submittal on repairs needed.
• Completes designated route and assigned work orders on a daily basis and promptly reports abnormalities to the dispatcher and/or immediate supervisor.
• Transports all commercial or residential solid waste, bulk waste, yard trash or recycling collected on a daily basis to the designated landfill in accordance with the weight limits established for the assigned vehicle by FDOT.

Minimum Qualifications and Education/Licenses and Certifications High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by two years of experience in the collection of commercial, residential, and solid waste with two years’ experience in the use and operation of solid waste collection equipment.

Must have a valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class “B”.

Must be able to lift heavy objects.

Essential Physical Skills and Environmental Conditions

Task involves the regular and at times sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, stretching, working in confined spaces and lifting moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items, or may involve the complex operation of machinery, shop and power or hand tools requiring eye hand coordination and the manipulation of multiple controls, fine adjustments or both. Task requires that work be performed in adverse environmental conditions. Task requires sound, visual, color, odor, depth and texture perception and discrimination. Task requires oral and written communications ability.
